THE BIG PICTURE
Molly Althoff and community
On view at Threshold Arts until September 28, 2025
In the Fall of 2024, Threshold Arts was invited to host a weekly pop-up print shop at the Market at Marian Circle on the St. Mary’s Hospital Campus of Mayo Clinic. Our vision was to create a playful space for community members to make collage papers that we would then cut and piece together into a larger mural representing our collective spirit. Bold colors and basic shapes were chosen with the purpose of transporting folks back to their childsmind, where play and creativity is the norm.
We brought different printmaking techniques for the community to explore including squeegee printing, block printing and mark making. There was so much enthusiasm for the project, we decided to set up a second printmaking station in the gallery at Threshold Arts and invite more community members to participate.
Over 150 collage papers were created by different hands. Threshold Artist, Molly Althoff was then tasked with collaging the papers together into one “Big Picture.” Molly adopted a process of play when collaging to stay true to the original spirit of the project. This was a wildly joyful project to be a part of and we hope you will feel that joy when you see it.
